Description

AB 14x14 water to air heat exchanger is designed for hydronic heating and cooling applications where efficient thermal transfer between hot water and airflow is required. The unit features 3 rows of 3/8" seamless copper tubes combined with high-density aluminum fins to support stable heat exchange performance in residential, commercial, and light industrial systems.

The heat exchanger is suitable for integration with outdoor wood furnaces, boilers, solar heating systems, air handlers, and other closed-loop hydronic systems.

Heat Transfer Design

The heat exchanger is constructed with 3 rows of 3/8" seamless copper tubes and 12 aluminum fins per inch to improve thermal transfer efficiency. The wavy fin configuration increases air turbulence and expands the effective contact surface area between airflow and the fin surface.

This tube-and-fin structure improves heat exchange performance inside and outside the tubes, helping support consistent heating or cooling operation under different airflow and water temperature conditions.

Depending on system configuration and operating conditions, the unit supports heating capacities up to 65,000 BTU, with higher output potential in certain high-flow applications.

Copper Tube and Fin Construction

The internal tubing is manufactured from seamless copper for reliable thermal conductivity and fluid circulation. Aluminum fins are mechanically bonded to the tubing structure to improve heat transfer between water and passing air.

The fins are coated with epoxy resin to improve surface hardness and wear resistance during long-term operation. This coating also helps reduce the effects of moisture and general environmental exposure on the fin surface.

Steel Casing Structure

The heat exchanger is supported by a reinforced steel shell designed to maintain structural stability during operation. Brazed edge and contact-point construction helps improve overall assembly strength and supports operation under varying pressure and temperature conditions.

The compact casing structure allows the unit to fit into a range of air handler and ductwork configurations while maintaining airflow efficiency.

How a Water to Air Heat Exchanger Works

A water to air heat exchanger transfers thermal energy between hot water circulating inside copper tubes and air passing across the fin surface.

As heated water flows through the internal tubing, airflow moving through the aluminum fins absorbs thermal energy from the tube surface. The fins help increase the contact area between air and the heat exchanger core, improving overall thermal transfer efficiency.

This process allows hydronic systems to distribute heated or cooled air through ductwork or air handlers without direct contact between water and airflow.

Energy Source Compatibility

This water to air heat exchanger can operate with multiple hydronic heat sources, including:

  • Outdoor wood furnaces
  • Boilers
  • Solar heating systems
  • Hot water storage systems
  • Hydronic heating loops

The system transfers thermal energy from heated water into moving air without direct fluid mixing, making it suitable for closed-loop heating applications.

Installation Options

The unit supports several installation methods depending on system requirements. It can be:

  • Connected directly to piping systems
  • Installed using clamps and mounting brackets
  • Welded to compatible pipe connections
  • Connected with adapters or riveted fittings

The 1" copper ports support integration with a variety of hydronic piping configurations.

Applications

The 14x14 water to air heat exchanger is suitable for:

  • Outdoor wood furnace systems
  • Residential heating systems
  • Commercial heating applications
  • Air handler integration
  • Hybrid heating systems
  • Air conditioning support systems
  • Inverter cooling systems
  • Workshop and garage heating

Its compact structure allows installation in systems where space efficiency is important.

FAQ and Support
Tips for mounting Air to Water Heat Exchanger:
If your air system has an overheat sensor, be sure to install the Air to Water Heat Exchanger far enough away from it so that the heat from the exchanger won't interfere with the sensor's readings.
